PhD in Social Sciences, University of Amsterdam, Holland. She is an emeritus historian and research professor in the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies at FLACSO Ecuador. Her research is focused on the history of women, education, and analysis of gender and punitive action in Ecuador’s history. Her recent works include Moral y orden. La delincuencia y el castigo en los inicios de la modernidad en Ecuador (2019), awarded the Manuela Sáenz prize that year, and Derechos sexuales y derechos reproductivos en Ecuador: disputas y cuentas pendientes (2020), a collection she coordinated together with Gioconda Herrera and Mercedes Prieto.
