Professor of Latin American History at Vanderbilt University (USA), where he is also Coordinator of the Circum-Atlantic Studies Seminar. His articles were published at the Hispanic American Historical Review, Luso-Brazilian Review and Afro-Asia Journals. His book Slave Emancipation and Transformations in Brazilian Political Citizenship was published by Pittsburgh University Press in 2016, having received the Bolton Prize from the American Historical Association (best book on Latin American History), and the Dean Prize (best book on Brazilian History) at Conference on Latin American History, from the same association.
