Emilio Alonso Criado (1879-1923) was a literature teacher, essayist and lecturer. He worked as a teacher at Colegio Nacional Nicolás Avellaneda y en el Instituto Presidente Roque Sáenz Peña. Even though he was never a public figure, he participated actively in the wider debates of his time around education and the literary canon. His book Literatura argentina, with a fourth and final edition in 1916, is considered a pioneering work in Argentine literary historiography.
