Fidel Antonio Roig holds degrees in agricultural engineering, botany, and an honorary doctorate from the National University of La Plata. He is a corresponding member of the Academia Nacional de Agronomía y Veterinaria de Argentina, senior researcher for Conicet, and professor at the National University of Cuyo, where he has been dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and founder of the degree program in food science. He took postgraduate courses in the School of European Phytosociology founded by Braun-Blanquet in Montpellier, France, and founded the Argentine School of Phytosociology. He has author of more than 150 publications and a number of books on taxonomic botany, phytosociology, geobotany, ecology, vegetation maps, archaeobotany, ethnobotany, medicinal plants, and phytochemistry. He is an active organizer of scientific meetings. He has been a member of many scientific entities and received numerous distinctions from scientific and academic societies in Argentina and other countries.
