Gerardo Fernández Juárez

He is an anthropologist. Professor of Social Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo. He has done anthropological field work in the Aymara highlands of Bolivia since 1988. He is currently investigating ethnographic expressions of idolatry, witchcraft, sorcery, shamanism, and healing procedures both in dossiers of idolatry and the inquisition (XVI-XVIII centuries) and in contemporary Andean groups. The result of his research are the monographs: Corporal Hexes. Possession, Sorcery, and Ahamanism in Spain and America (16th-21st centuries) (2011), and Sorcerers and Ministers of the Devil. Rituals, Medical Practices and Intangible Heritage in the Andes (16th-21st centuries) (2012), both published by Abya-Yala.
