Helena María Varela Guinot

Degree in Geography and History from Universidad Complutense University of Madrid. She completed her master's degree in Social Sciences at the Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Ciencias Sociales and has a PhD in Political Science, Sociology and Social Anthropology from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid. Academic and researcher at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, she has various publications and participations in national and international academic forums, developing her research around issues related to the processes of political change and the functioning of democracy and exclusion processes. In gender studies, she has addressed the issue of gender violence in universities. Among her recent publications is the book published in 2021 The shell of the turtles. The Prodh Center and the organizations that defend human rights in the search for truth and justice. She currently serves as coordinator of the PhD. Program in Gender Critical Studies and as internal advisor to the Gender Violence Attention Committee of the Universidad Iberoamericana Mexico City. She is a member of the #NoSinMujeres (#NotWithoutWomen) Network of Political Scientists.
