Bachelor and PhD in Biological Sciences with a mention in Ecology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with a post-doctorate from Brown University in the USA and from the Charles Darwin Foundation, Galapagos, Ecuador. His specialty is the ecology of ecosystems and communities of the Sea-Earth interface, on which he has published more than 30 scientific articles in international journals. He is an associated professor at the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Visiting Scholar at Brown University, USA.
