Specialist in Structural Analysis and Mechanics of Fluids Applied to Environmental Problems by the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) of Lyon, France (1982); Specialist in University Management by the University Management and Leadership Institute of the Inter-American University Organization (IGLU-OUI), Québec, Canada (1998); Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (1998) and PhD in Architecture with Honorable Mention from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma of Mexico (UNAM) (2011), which gave him the Alfonso Caso Medal "Recognition of University Merit", for having graduated with the highest academic performance and the highest quality thesis (2013). He has directed research projects on environmental issues, urban and rural sanitation areas and housing improvement. He has published several articles nationally and internationally and author of 7 books and co-author of 5 more. Academic projects evaluator (SEP) and research (CONACYT), member of Editorial Committees in refereed and indexed journals.
