Degree and Master’s degree in History from the Universidad del Valle. PhD in History at the Universidad de Huelva. Professor in the History Department at the Universidad del Valle and head of the Research Group Cununo from the same institution. He coordinated the lecture “Sociedades afrocolombianas” and researches in Afro-Colombian studies in the Master’s degree in History, and PhD in Humanities at the Universidad del Valle. Among his publications are: Poblamiento y sociedad en el pacífico colombiano, siglos XVI al XVIII (1a ed. 1995, 2a ed. 2017), Culturas negras entre las sociedades negras afrocolombianas del norte del Cauca, Colombia (2017), and in co-authorship with Francisco Zuluaga, Sociedad, cultura y resistencia negra en Colombia y Ecuador (2007).
