Miguel León-Portilla
Distinguished specialist and proponent of Nahuatl thought in Mexico and Latin America; PhD in Philosophy from Universidad Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) where he has been professor since 1957; Emeritus Scholar of the Institute of Historical Research; Doctor Honoris Causa by numerous universities; in 1981 received the National Prize for Social Sciences, History, and Philosophy. He was also awarded the 2014 Bernardino de Sahagún Medal, among others. Some of his publications are: Trece poetas del mundo azteca (1967, 1978), El reverso de la Conquista (1998), and Introducción a la cosmografía y las cuatro navegaciones de América Vespucio (2007). Member of the Mexican Academy of History and El Colegio Nacional. Author’s awards: National Award for Social Sciences, History and Philosophy, 1981; Betisario Domínguez Medal, Senate of the Republic, 1995; Menéndez Pelayo Internacional Award, 2001; University Merit, 2007; Living Legend Award, 2013; Bernardino de Sahagún Medat, 2014
