Alexis Zapata

Ecuadorian musician, university professor, and composer. Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the Universidad de Las Américas and a Master’s Degree in Musical Composition from the International Universidad de La Rioja. Currently, he serves as a university professor and performer of Andean wind instruments in Ecuador’s main traditional orchestra: the Orchestra of Andean Instruments. Some of the main accolades he has received include: First Place in the “Eclipse” Composition Competition (2019) in the folklore category, organized by Casa de la Cultura Ecuador, for his piece “Condormatzi”. National Youth Award (2019) for his contribution to art and culture with the School of Andean Instruments. Symphonic Composition Scholarship from the University of Cuenca (2021) for his work “Tonos Reales al Pichincha”. Luis Alberto Valencia Award for Best Popular Music Production (2020–2021) for his work: “Yaravíes, albazos y pasillos del tiempo heroico” (Yaravíes, albazos, and pasillos of the heroic era). First place in the Bicentennial Composition Competition of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, for the piece “De estos héroes al brazo de hierro,” for symphony orchestra, rondador, and sound design.
