Handbook, according to two definitions of the word in the dictionary of the Real Academia de la Lengua Española is, “a concise reference book that summarizes the most substantial aspects of a topic” or, “a book or notebook in which to make annotations”. This book deals more with the second definition in which the critical annotations of the author, made throughout her experience in museums and research, led her to note down new ways to approach Colombian art from the 19th century. As well as her many conferences and publications, it was the two courses that the author taught at the Department of Arts at Universidad de los Andes that consolidated the contents in this book, which is aimed at young students of Colombian 19th century art.
