Architecture Styles and Acoustic Quality of Music Rooms

Tipologías arquitectónicas y calidad acústica de salas para música

This book develops an acoustic analysis and design methodology that allows establishing the acoustic quality of a music room based on its basic architectural forms. Furthermore, a state-of-the-art overview of the architectural acoustics focused on quality benchmarks and indicators is carried out. The acoustic quality of a music room is a cultural phenomenon in which the physics of sound waves, the auditory perception, the musical use of the space, and the individual preferences of the audience interact. The scientific study of room acoustics requires the examination of the complex relationship between the physical fields and the perception of those fields. The analysis and case studies presented in this book allow establishing that the acoustic quality of a music room may be inferred from its basic architecture style provided certain conditions are met. In addition, the functioning of some non-traditional acoustic fields may be drawn by applying an analysis that combines several formal types.
