Since computers were developed, their task has been solving difficult problems for humans. That is why they have been programmed with formal rules that work for each specific problem. Automatic learning has changed this idea and has permitted to solve many of these problems without the need to program machines with particular algorithms, but in a general way, based on experience.
Algorithms emulate the human mind and are based in the neural network model. Deep learning provides high-level algorithms that allow such characterizations to take place automatically, considering their level or hierarchy. This book is focused in the two models of deep learning with the higher impact in the revolution of artificial intelligence: the convolutional neural networks and the recurrent neural networks, with applications that are commented and explained with practical examples that include applications in the medical field, especially in the study of COVID-19.
