Both for the analysis of contemporary politics and for the study of borders, the juncture marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent period will continue to be obligatory references for a long time to come. The emphasis and background of what has been happening in the Amazonian borders, in other countries of the Americas and even in Europe, during the last three decades, confirm this. This global context of the emergence or strengthening of nationalisms is the same one that has seen the neoliberal doctrine grow, “flourish” and, according to many indications, begin to wither, although this withering seems still far from being consummated. Without ceasing to be telling, the symptoms are contradictory when we see that, for example, while we witness the strengthening or radicalization of an unabashedly racist and fascist right wing in countries such as the United States and several European countries, in Latin America a second wave seems to be consolidating on the left of the political spectrum, as a response to an economic model, a way of life and a way of relating to humans and nature, predators that look increasingly exhausted. This book, a product of academic dialogue and conversations between teachers and researchers from the Amazon, America and Europe, shows some aspects and details of how this period is presented in the border areas and regions of these three macro-spaces, between 1989 and 2019.
