Brazilian lullaby has already been object of musical, ethnographic, folkloric, sociological and psychoanalytic studies; in the poetic-literary scope, however, there is a gap that this book intends to fill. The author analyzes a vast repertoire of songs (reproduced in the CD that accompanies the edition), covering from formal aspects to the contexts of their genesis and also questioning the nuances between popular and erudite productions, the collective anonymity and the authorship in the phonographic market, regarding what is “imported” and what is “authentic” from Brazil. Besides its functional aspect, the book approaches the subject considering the lullaby as one of the first cultural objects to which human beings are exposed to.
