Ricardo Aronskind’s Celso Furtado is an exciting book that combines scholarship, subtlety and synthesis. A text written with great skill that manages to introduce us to the work of one of the great Latin American thinkers, who is brutally topical for the times. Aronskind’s Furtado is the one that does not see in the distance between the central and peripheral countries only differences between productive structures, as the CEPAL approach characteristically did, but rather the one that observes the sociological and cultural elements that condition them and the effects of social and distributive disparity that they generate. As the author of this work points out, for Celso Furtado, the solution to growing asymmetries is not technical, but political.
