Comedies for children
Comedias para público infantil

In these comedies for children, the Argentinian playwright José Ignacio Serralunga proves that he knows what young audiences like. These are funny comedies, full of hilarious situations, rhymes, and songs. As examples of fictional stories, in There’s a Mess in the River (Hay lío en el río), a little Caribbean fish has an almost impossible dream that leads her to discover environmental issues; an innocent little witch is accused of witchcraft in Wisteria and the Fairy (Wisteria y el Hada). Based on historical events, we can find The Tiger and the Captain (1492) (El tigre y el capitán, 1942), The Dream of San Martín and Belgrano in Light Blue and White (El sueño de San Martín y Belgrano en celeste y blanco). His historical accuracy does not prevent him from imagining fantastic things: a tiger teaching the Captain, San Martín’s horse planning battles, or the Pombero, a legendary Guarani being, suggesting to Belgrano a regulation for the native people, in exchange of a dozen stuffed churros.
