Comedies of Humour
Comedias de humor

In these six successful comedies by the Argentinian playwright José Ignacio Serralunga, humour takes centre stage. Humour as an end in itself: to amuse, to entertain, to make people laugh; and humour as a means, as a tool, as a filter. Because it makes the intolerable, tolerable; the indigestible, digestible; the unacceptable, acceptable. How else could we bear and even love such unworthy characters? Desperate people who would sell their souls for a wish, thieves, rascals, misers, and even dead people who cannot rest in peace. Humour appears in these comedies in all its forms: irony, parody, farce, absurdity. Naive humour and gallows humour, in prose and in verse, everything in the right measure, portraying worlds as diverse as the Argentinian tango universe, an Anglo-Saxon medieval legend, a swashbuckling tale, an unfortunate love story, the secret world of a family vault, and also a politically incorrect story.
