The history of Valle del Cauca—like in other areas of Nueva Granada—has confronted a transition phase towards the emancipation and independence in which identity principles of the region were formed. This book identifies those symbolic elements that specifically contributed to recognize or promote the republican ideology and that, despite not being many in the region, will gain strength and meaning with the conceptualizations that will accompany the changes from the autonomist to the independence phase and the establishment of the modern Republic.
