CONTEMPORARY TRANSFORMATIONS OF DEMOCRACY

TRANSFORMACIONES CONTEMPORÁNEAS DE LA DEMOCRACIA

What are the main transformations of contemporary democracies? Does it make any sense to differentiate the idea of transformations of democracy, from the idea of transformations of contemporary politics? How do the recent changes in political structures impact on the logic of democratic government? What do the new options for democracy that are "headed" in many cases by recognized anti-democrats involve? Democracy seems to have reached a sort of blind spot in the historical process of its most recent development. The increase of contradictions, aggressions, distrust, hatred of the other, coupled with the primacy of the negative and colonization of politics by particular interests, forces us to rethink the lines of analysis about the transformations of democracies in recent years, since sometimes a type of destructuring of its classic contents is evident, such as the expansion of equality, of freedom, of the common welfare and the deepening of pluralism.
