Ecuador is one of the highest medicine consumer per capita in South America. Its pharmaceutical market has unique characteristics compared to the rest of the world: the local companies -both national and multinational- generate millions of dollars in registered trademark drugs, while the generic medicine reaches very low levels of use, making health a vulnerable right. This reality, where the vast majority of inhabitants seek medical attention through the Integral Public Health Network (RPIS), has motivated Universidad de Las Américas to publish these book that talks about productive strategies, the current situation and future of the Ecuadorian pharmaceutical industry. The Ecuadorian pharmaceutical market reflects the national panorama of health supply and demand, promoting a reflexive dialogue on the public policy of supply, registration, control and production of medicines in Ecuador.
