This book is a new knowledge production, from the research called "Processes of reading comprehension and student permanence in the University", carried out within the Research Group on Language Sciences. In it, conceptions and reflections are presented about the desertion and permanence in the educational processes, the intellectual marginalization of the young people and some experiences that contribute to reduce the desertion in different Latin American universities. Additionally, in this document, the process of implementing five strategies of reading, writing and orality is socialized, which strengthen the academic culture (Carlino, 2005), focused on the codification and decoding of academic and scientific texts. This favors the learning processes and in turn, facilitates the permanency of students at the Santiago de Cali University.
