Unfortunately, it is well known for all of us that the contemporary urban scene is marked by social inequality, poverty and violence, making it common for people to feel insecure on the streets and to be constantly under stress, facing problems with housing, transportation, sanitation and so many others. In this book, we explore the dimensions that underlie the concept of educating cities and reflect on the efforts that have been made to promote critical sense and accountability amongst citizens in many different countries. Within this context, we also talk about the International Association of Educating Cities (Aice), discussing how it was founded, what its main goals are and what it has achieved so far in regards to strengthening democratic processes in the urban and educational spheres.
