Femicide in Ecuador: An Interdisciplinary Study
El femicidio en Ecuador: un estudio interdisciplinario
This is a collective and interdisciplinary research on a problem that affects women, girls, adolescents and feminised bodies. Femicide is the murder of women simply because they are women; it is a global phenomenon and the result of systemic sexist discrimination prevalent in the culture. The advancement of human rights makes it clear that violence against women is a violation of human rights and must be eradicated. The international community and states are responsible for finding solutions and the involvement of civil society is key to finding effective, just and lasting responses. In this context, the role of academia is to generate ideas for understanding the causes, consequences and impact of femicide. The authors propose useful ideas for students, but also for decision-makers, especially those who must guarantee the protection of women, access to justice, who litigate and accompany the families of victims.
