Flora y fauna de los vientos andinos: tratado de organología y orquestación para vientos andinos de uso popular

This book is based on the Ecuadorian tradition of Andean wind instrument performance, providing a brief treatise on its history and detailing the organological aspects of seven main musical instruments that have been present in Andean cultures for thousands of years and have been preserved to this day. The present publication is the result of six years of research in the classrooms of the Universidad de Las Americas, alongside the creation of the Youth Orchestra of Andean Instruments and the Wind Ensemble, pioneering musical groups at the university level dedicated to studying the large Andean orchestral format.

The first part of the book presents a brief history of the presence of Andean winds in the Ecuadorian Andes, revisiting the history of music in Ecuador through its wind instruments. The second part offers an initial treatise on organology dedicated to seven instruments commonly used in traditional Ecuadorian orchestras: palla, malta zampoña, chromatic zampoña, Ecuadorian pan flute, toyo, quena, and quenacho.
