Laboratorios para la Vida (Labvida) aims to make scientific inquiry, agroecology, food and health part of daily life in the classroom, the garden and the community. This book invites you to explore action research as a pedagogical tool capable of articulating the educational community and at the same time achieving concrete improvements in our diet.
What is your first memory of food? How did your diet change when you got to school, throughout your childhood and into your adult life? Who prepared the food? Who did you eat with at different times of your life? What are the smells and tastes you miss? Close your eyes and reflect on these questions …
Many of us have experienced modifications in our diet, related to our personal circumstances, which also respond to strong and abrupt changes of a political, economic and technological nature. Messages come to us from all sides that tell us what we should eat and drink to be healthy, sexy, prosperous, modern, and so on. Sometimes we don’t know who to believe or how to eat well.
Eating is an act that is physiological, cultural and political at the same time. Food is part of our identity, it arouses passions and motivates conversations. They also cause concerns, sometimes fundamental: How will I get my next meal?
In this book you will find a collection of activities designed and approved by teachers in various fields, as well as reflections on their impact on the educational environment. We hope to infect you with our passion for research and that we are encouraged to fight for sustainable food.
