Governance and management of sustainable development

Gobernanza y gerencia del desarrollo sostenible

Since 2015, the challenges of sustainable development have acquired greater political relevance thanks to the adoption by almost every country in the world of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDS) and the Paris Agreement. This conception of sustainable development incorporates the ecological limits of the planet into the discourse of development, which constitutes the essential difference between this and other dominant development approaches or theories on the global stage.
This book clarifies the essential elements of sustainable development and brings the reader closer to a better understanding of the challenges that its search poses. Beyond the theoretical proposals and discourses on sustainable development, we ask ourselves how it is possible to address the socioenvironmental issues for the achievement of ODS in Latin America, not only from the design of public policies as usual, but from the governance and management of public, private, and third sector organizations. This compilation is intended to introduce the practice of sustainable development to students, researchers and managers of development programs, who seek to go beyond disciplinary approaches and want to address the complexity of this process.
