Griots and epistemologies of (re)existences: Afro-Limonense calypso as an Afro-Caribbean oral tradition

De Griots y epistemologías de las (re)existencias: calypso afrolimonense como tradición oral afrocaribeña

This book aims to broaden the discussion regarding the conceptualization of knowledge and the mechanisms used for its production and transmission, beyond what was determined by modernity and its corresponding Eurocentrism. In this way, it seeks to vindicate orality as a legitimate source for the production and transmission of knowledge in light of the Afro-Limonense calypso as an Afro-Caribbean oral tradition.
Calypso music, in general, and Afrolimonense calypso, in particular, as a great example of the oral traditions of the Afro-descendant population, has managed to survive the ravages of the systems of oppression and, due to this, even today we can still hear its rhythms. This is a perfect example of the effectiveness of the mechanisms involved in calypso as an instrument for the oral transmission of knowledge, as the chain of transmission, the guardian of memory and language itself. A fundamental aspect is its cross-border nature, which has even made it a Caribbean language.
