CURAR O CORPO, SALVAR A ALMA: AS REPRESENTAÇÕES DO YOGA NO BRASIL

When and how did yoga arrive to Brazil?, who were its first instructors?, how was yoga depicted in the first books published on this issue in the country, and what polemics arise? These questions and other matters—such as instructors and practitioners seeking to organize themselves in different ways and the strategies used by the media to picture and sell yoga—are answered and discussed in this book, unveiling points left unspoken during the last decades. The analysis of contemporary magazines covers (2006-2014) indicates the existence of discursive disputes and struggles for power in a very promising market that proposes from an ideal and health body to the salvation of the soul.
