The inequities that characterize Colombian society, the engine of the violent conflicts present from its territorial conflict, have as one of the central actors the economic and political elites of the country. Despite this, the large academic production resulting from the efforts of researchers and academics to understand Colombian society and its transformations has focused attention on the role of subaltern populations and armed actors. It is for this reason that this book seeks to contribute to the analysis of the role of elites from an interdisciplinary and long-term perspective that is carried out from the Social Sciences, and that involves both classical studies carried out from History, Political Science and Sociology, as well as contributions from Anthropology, Economics and Communication Sciences. Although it starts from a classic definition of the concept of “elite” from authors such as Gaetano Mosca, Robert Michels, Charles Wright Mills, Vilfredo Pareto, Max Weber, readers will find different case studies that go beyond the analysis of political, military and economic structures identified as concrete agents of domination, to understand the concentration of power from the accumulation of specific goods by minority groups. artistic, scientific, sports and digital elites.
