Famílias inter-raciais: tensões entre cor e amor

This book is an exemplary model of research that relates processes of constitution of subjectivity and social structure. If love is a social construction, so is racism. In order to demonstrate this hypothesis, Lia Schucman “elevates” herself to the individuals in the interviewed families, giving them a voice to tell their stories, which shows how the affective connection, despite its particularities, is permeated by racism. The work is about families, but it is mainly about structural racism, and is thus treated as an essential aspect of sociability, normalization and naturalization of hierarchies, places and discourses and invariably penetrating interracial families. Thus, if racial discrimination is a power relation that imposes itself in spite the conscious will of individuals, family love also manifests itself as a power relationship in which race is an organizing element.
