This book offers an overview of the phenomenon of knowledge monopolies in the face of the challenges of Big Data. What’s and who makes up a monopoly of knowledge? Who’s benefited and who’s affected by technological change? We need a cultural movement to preserve the public domain of art, technology and culture, which can already be seen among those who fight for open access, open source, free software, creative commons and free culture.
