This book aims at producing a discourse which allows us to think about artistic modern expressions in Campo Grande, a Brazilian city located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, through Lídia Baís’ life story and her paintings. Lídia Baís’ family aspects, her artistic life and, above all, her strong relation with religion are important to understand the subject covered in this book. The artist’s work and life lead us to think not only about her story, but mainly about the history of a place and of a period that was in transition to modernity. Lídia Baís’ life represents not only a particular story, but an entire universe of which women were part from 1920 to 1940.
