LIFE IN A SOUTHERN EDGE
LA VIDA EN UNA ORILLA DEL SUR

This book studies the immigration process of Hondurans living in the cities of Tapachula and Huixtla in the Soconusco region of the bordering state of Chiapas, Mexico: a journey to a destination located in the ‘global south’ that, just as the expelling location, is ‘peripheral’ and a territory deemed more for transit rather than immigration destination. Its objective is to analyze the way these men and women, based on their social interaction with actors located inside and outside the Soconusco —relatives, fellow countrymen, other Central Americans, local population, state agents— develop their creative capacity to survive, improve their life conditions and integrate into the receiving society through their struggle to belong in different locations.
