Magical Misery takes place in the island of Cuba, between the 30´s and the 70´s. It is an intimate chronicle of Cuba, in recent times, through the prism of two families from different social positions. It is a sixteen-chapter novel that attempts to be a fragmentary reconstruction of the life of Visitación Olay, a peasant woman from Pinar del Río, nicknamed Yaya, as if she were an open wound, who is a a woman ahead of her time and very rebellious against social codes and stereotypes. , who went to Havana because she did not want to end her days planting tobacco in the plains of Vueltarriba and Vueltabajo de Pinar del Rio.
