Two hundred years after its construction, the Metropolitan Cathedral is still one of Mexico City’s most representative and important buildings. Full of secrets and wonders, the Cathedral was built on the soft ground where the Aztec capital was founded; this fact has caused subsidence and cracking that throughout the years, little by little have put it in danger of collapse. This book trails the history of how a group of specialists of UNAM’s Engineering Institute applied the resulting experience of their research to safeguard this invaluable Colonial treasure.
