Security has been a concern of all societies, from the most remote antecedents of collective life. Particularly in Mexico, violence is presented as a complex social phenomenon that affects all people and contexts of the present. As we are immersed in the dynamics of daily violence, it is essential to understand – or perhaps remember – that the telos of State institutions empowered to use force is none other than the protection and safeguarding of the integrity of people. This is why the Centro de Estudios Estratégicos para el Desarrollo of the Universidad de Guadalajara, Global Thought, y the Universidad de Seguridad y Justicia de Tamaulipas have gathered in this work the knowledge and perspectives of eleven specialists who approach this important topic from an analytical and reflective perspective, as well as with the conviction that academic exercise must offer alternatives for intervention and action to solve this lacerating problem.
