RELECTIONS ON THE INDIANS AND CIVIL POWER

RELECTIONES SOBRE OS INDIOS E SOBRE O PODER CIVIL

This very important work is a valuable contribution to the understanding of the great legal and humanist legacy of Francisco de Vitoria, a theologian, philosopher, jurist and founder of the movement that, throughout the 16th century, congregated romanists, canonists and theologians and created the School of Salamanca. Vitoria’s pioneering actions contributed to the success of the renovation movement of the Thomist scholasticism during the Renaissance. The publication of this work is, therefore, of great importance. Not only to the unquestionable relevance of Vitoria’s text, but also to the quality of its introductory writings, authored by professors José Carlos Brandi Aleixo, Antônio Augusto Cançado Trindade, Fernando Augusto Albuquerque Mourão and Maurizio Marchetti.
