Why does child sexual abuse occur? What is the role of the family in its occurrence? How do children live this experience? What short-term and long-term consequences occur in these children? How to help victims overcome this painful experience? This text leads us to reflect on these and other questions around a highly controversial topic. With a broad theoretical solidity and with empirical evidence and methodological support, the book is made up of a theoretical section that brings together the main references, classic authors and the most current research on the subject of child sexual abuse, in order to lead to an understanding in depth about the problem, its characteristics, prevalence, family factors, risk and protection; as well as its possible consequences, focusing mainly on the emotions of shame and guilt, fundamental elements in the recovery of the victims. It also contains the testimonies of 11 women who share their life experiences as survivors of child sexual abuse, and an intervention proposal based on the narrative therapy model, aimed at resignifying the experience.
