The book highlights and recognizes the importance of female figure in semba structuration as a symbol of national identity and as a tool of empowerment. It also shows – through articles and reflections about women’s space as leading figure in semba’s construction, one of the symbols of resistence and negotiation of black people in Brazil, – the way how sembas’ women dared facing patriarchy, the distancing of their positions in the constitutive proccess of the musical genre and the elimination of their protagonism inside the movement.
