Short Stories, by Christian Peña —one of the most prolific and recognized poets of the last generations in Mexico—, unanimously won the National Poetry Prize “Juan Eulogio Guerra Aguiluz” 2019, granted by a jury made up of Minerva Margarita Villarreal, Jesús Ramón Ibarra and Francisco Meza. The record highlights the consistency and poetic strength throughout this volume that, through an intimate tone, and drawing on the narrative discourse, documents the sensitive, complex and revealing journey of the poetic voice in the face of the future of the lineage, building a lyrical universe where scenes from the past stand out like paintings of surprising intensity. Among the 118 books that participated in this contest —convened within the National Literature Awards of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa—, Short StorieS stands out as one of the most interesting routes of current poetry in our country.
