STEREOTOMY AND TOPOLOGY IN ARCHITECTURE

ESTEROTOMÍA Y TOPOLOGÍA EN ARQUITECTURA

This book is derived from the author’s doctoral thesis, where the concepts of topological geometry are included in the architectural design. It is about a growing phenomenon in avant-garde professional practice that still lacks systematized methodological tools. A formal instrument, called topological stereotomy, is developed based on it. The combination of both terms results in a subcategory of the traditional stereotomy that develops specific logics of composition and design process. The topological principles applied to the architectural design generate continuous, intertwined, and fluid specialties, where the soil archetype is the main element for the production of topographic landscapes. This work offers specific and detailed keys to develop academic operations and professional works, which enables the transfer of contents into other fields.
