Historias del cuerpo. Experiencias de mujeres que ejercen la prostitución

Stories of the Body explores the complexity and ambiguity of the life stories of a group of women who practice prostitution. This study offers a critical view and a reinterpretation of a paradoxically studied population that generates a lot of curiosity and has been the object of multiple representations, but little known in depth in the scenarios that surround it. This work is an approach to understanding the ordinary life of people in a clandestine and stigmatized environment. The research was carried out in a period of eighteen months in two brothels in the locality of Santa Fe in Bogotá, and it used in-depth interviews, observation work, documentary research, and a survey to study closely five women who practice prostitution and who are mothers, and more superficially sixteen other women. This book proposes a look that breaks away from the masculine perspective and brings to the forefront the voice and experiences of those who practice the profession of prostitution, recognizing the multiple dimensions and facets of these women, beyond a “miserabilist” view.
