SUBLIMATION IN THE TEACHING OF JACQUES LACAN: A POSSIBLE PERSPECTIVE ON PLEASURE

A SUBLIMAÇÃO NO ENSINO DE JACQUES LACAN: UM TRATAMENTO POSSÍVEL DO GOZO

This is an important contribution of Clarissa Metzger to theoretical studies and to the clinical practice of psychoanalysis. The author proposes an analysis of the concept of sublimation in Freud and Lacan and a review of other nearby concepts. Its objective is to present and discuss what she understands as the crucial points of that concept in Lacan’s theorizing and its consequences for psychoanalytic treatment. The book highlights the fundamental aspects of the Lacanian elaborations of sublimation, but also seeks to indicate the advances of this theory. For the Brazilian psychoanalyst Glaucia Nagem, the book raises relevant questions about how the concept of sublimation can be intertwined with the concept of symptom without closing and leaving space for other books.
