The study of the period of 1980-2016 demonstrates that Latin America faces economic, social, political and institutional labyrinths for which it still cannot find solutions. Cyclical economic evolution, the importance of the external economic environment, mediocre social results, and institutional weakness are a trademark of the region. This book provides an analysis of regional evolution during a 36 year period, illustrating both achievements and shortcomings.
