As its author points out, this book arises from a position of reader and translator that contributes to know the presence of the Brazilian poet Cecília Meireles in Peru. Barrós outlines “an alternate biography” through translations and impressions criticisms that various Peruvian poets made, between 1930 and 2018, of Meireles and his work. Thus, it offers an organic vision of a corpus made up of eleven translators, among whom stand out Enrique Bustamante y Ballivián, Alberto Guillén, Luis Fabio Xammar, Yolanda Rivarola, Nelly Fonseca Recavarren, Augusto Tamayo Vargas, Ricardo Silva-Santisteban, and Óscar Limache. The book includes five annexes with highly relevant documents to help understand a history of translations that continues. The result is an extensive research that weighs five very important aspects: the contents of each translation, its relationship with the corresponding poetic writing of Meireles’s work, the types of publication, their editorial history and, where information was available, the relevance of each translator. This allowed to know and revitalize the written presence of a fundamental author for Brazilian poetry of the 20th century. Through an agile style, the study can serve both researchers and readers who are starting to know about Meireles.
