THE PRODUCTION OF COMMUNITY SPACE. INHABITING THE SOUTHEAST OF BOGOTA

LA PRODUCCIÓN DEL ESPACIO COMUNITARIO. HABITAR EL SURORIENTE BOGOTANO

This book asks about the meaning inhabitants give to space when producing it in a community. It is a commitment to understanding the city as a collective construction, which can be explained without renouncing the procedures and concepts of the social sciences, in a dialogue between the researcher and the community. Its object is the city, not as the abstract space of geometry, the physicist of geography or the planned and regulated urban planning, but as a human being, that is, built and inhabited communally. The production of the community space is nourished by in-depth theoretical research and, above all, by concrete experiences of local collectives. Its value lies in the direct experience that allowed the author to understand success, tensions, forgetfulness and grief of the generations of the inhabitants San Cristóbal town, in the southeastern Bogota. In this book, the readers will find a piece of work that will make them rethink the local spaces in which they live, the communities they belong to and the idea of city they have.
