THE TREE AND THE FISH. PEOPLE, ANIMALS, AND PLANTS IN SANTIAGO'S MOUNTAIN

EL ÁRBOL Y EL PESCAO. PERSONAS, ANIMALES Y PLANTAS EN EL MONTE SANTIAGUEÑO

As the outcome of a long-lasting ethnographic research, The Tree and the Fish invites us to (re)think about the possible relations between nature and culture in our contemporary society. With this aim, he leads us into everyday experiences and relationships that this population from semi-urban and semi-rural region of Santiago del Estero province, Argentina, weave with the environment they live in: the Chaquean mountain woodlands, one of the most significant ecosystems in South America. By the original juxtaposition of different kinds of materials, The Tree and the Fish fills the reader with knowledge both analytic and sensory. Through this anthropological proposal, the book appreciates non-extractivist ways of life and relationships regarding nature, its beings and forces, becoming into a fundamental writing material for current debates and agendas regarding the socio-environmental issues and sustainable local development alternatives in Argentina and Latin America.
