Latin American music is passionate and rhythmic, but also sad and reflective. In this book, musicologist Juan Pablo González seeks to articulate thoughts about what music, musicians, audiences, and cultural industries in Latin America offer to us. Thoughts that allows us to approach Latin America from within, from its veins, from those that measure its pulse and from the place where the most intimate of its diverse and dynamic identities circulate. The proposal, is to observe or listen to Latin American music as a whole from within paradigms of study arising, from the broad field of the humanities and the social sciences, and from paradigms that influenced the 1980s renewal of musicology, which led this discipline to revise the way it thought about music.
